Roofs and Chimneys
Using binoculars, check your roof for missing or damaged shingles from the safety of the ground. Pay close attention when inspecting the flashing around your chimney. Take note of any cracks in order to fix small problems before they grow and become more expensive.
Gutters and Downspouts
Gutters are crucial for making sure water stays away from the siding and foundation of your home. Make sure to clean them out before April showers start. Check for any leaks or cracked areas.
Foundation and Entry Points
Keep animals and insects out of your house by checking your foundation for holes and cracks. Sealing these points will also keep moisture and hot summer air out. Don’t forget to check weather stripping around windows and doors!
Driveways and Walkways
Check driveways and walkways for any cracks that may have formed during freezing winter temperatures. When left unchecked, these broken areas can create uneven walkways and increase the likelihood of someone tripping and hurting themselves on your property.
Pruning Shrubbery
Cutting branches down allows them to grow better and faster. It can also help keep small animals (i.e. that squirrel that somehow got into your attic) and insects out of your house. Walk around your home and cut down any branches or shrubbery that come in direct contact with it.
Decks and Patios
If you have a deck or patio, make sure to check that it is still in good shape after the winter cold and snow. Look for warped or loose boards that could be unsafe and consider staining and resealing the wood.
