2024Get to Know Donna Walsh, Commercial Lines Account Manager at Morse Insurance
Here at Morse, of course, we love filling our community in on how exceptional our team is. By continuing to highlight our employees, we hope that you can learn a bit more about them and what it’s like to work at Morse.
For this employee spotlight, we had the pleasure of talking with Donna Walsh, an industry veteran who has been with Morse since 2016. After growing up in New Hampshire, starting her career in Boston, and then moving across the country, Donna made her way back to Massachusetts and settled into her career at Morse. As a commercial lines account manager in our Easton office, she works mostly with restaurants, contractors, and schools, providing advice on what insurance coverages they need to have and why. While she loves being a valued resource for her clients, at the end of the workday she also enjoys retreating to her quiet life in Mansfield, where she spends her free time gardening, baking, and hanging out with her daughter and grandson.
Morse: You’re no stranger to working in insurance. How did you get started in the industry?
Donna: I started working at an insurance company in Boston in 1972. In the beginning, I was working in the claims department, mostly traveling to clients’ houses and taking pictures to help with the claims process. After doing that for a while, I moved around a bit—first to Vermont and then to Arizona—but I continued to work in the industry on and off during that time. Eventually, I returned to Massachusetts and joined Morse.
Morse: Given your experience, you must have accumulated lots of knowledge about the industry. What would you say to someone who is looking to work in commercial lines?
Donna: It’s challenging, but in a good, rewarding way. You’re facing something new almost every day, which means you get endless opportunities to learn new things—whether it’s something about the industry your client works in or a new way to explain a coverage you haven’t thought of before. There is so much room to grow when you’re working in commercial lines.
Morse: It’s great to hear that your work as a commercial lines account manager is rewarding. What is the most rewarding part of the job?
Donna: I love being able to help businesses understand not only what insurance coverages they need but also why. It’s very important to me that my clients know what they’re getting, and I believe I’m very skilled at being able to explain coverages in a way that they can easily understand. It’s a great feeling to help business owners get the insurance protection they need so they can focus on running their company.
Morse: You’ve been serving Morse’s clients for about eight years now. What do you love most about being a Morse employee?
Donna: It’s amazing to be working for a family-run company. I feel like I’m a member of the family and that my contributions are appreciated. It’s an environment where we’re constantly learning from one another. When I share my input, feedback, and knowledge, I feel like it is taken into consideration. At the same time, I feel like I can ask any question and the answer will be delivered with a smile.
Morse: Do you have any special memories of time spent with the whole Morse team?
Donna: Recently, we all went bowling as part of an employee appreciation day. I’m based in the Easton office and often talk with employees who work in other locations over the phone, but I rarely get to see them face to face. It was nice spending quality time with the whole Morse family and having a day to celebrate not only the work we do but also each other.
Morse: We love hearing about your fun times at work, but what does your life look like outside of work? How do you spend your free time?
Donna: Every year, I grow a vegetable and fruit garden. I plant things like zucchinis, peppers, cucumbers, and strawberries. But my favorite thing to grow, by far, has to be tomatoes; I grow all different kinds. I also love baking. My two favorite things to make are carrot cake and whoopie pies. I’ve had the same carrot cake recipe for years, and I’d say it’s my go-to dish. I’ve even made carrot cake whoopie pies!
